Schott NYC

Schott is an American clothing manufacturing company based in New York City and founded in 1913 by Jack and Irving Schott who began sewing and producing raincoats in a basement-factory on Manhattan's Lower East Side. In 1928, Irving Schott designed and manufactured the first leather motorcycle jacket; the Perfecto. Retailing for $5.50 to a Harley Davidson distributor, the Perfecto is durable, rugged, and immediately entered the national fashion scene. In the 1940s, a bomber jacket was commissioned by the U.S. Air Force during the war to protect soldiers and officers from the intense cold at high altitudes, stuffing it with real shearling wool and adding aesthetic details like cuffs, a waistband and chest flaps on display. Thus was born the Schott B-3; rugged and warm, this leather and wool jacket would be produced by Schott for the U.S. Army for the next sixty years. At the end of the world conflict, the brand dressed many actors in their most important appearances such as James Dean and Marlon Brando. In the 1970s and 1980s Schott became associated with the punk movement. The wave of rebellion reached the streets of downtown New York through the underground music venue CBGB. The Schott Perfecto was the actual uniform of rock stars like the Ramones, Blondie, Joan Jett and the Sex Pistols. In 2013, the company celebrated 100 years since its founding, solidifying the work of the third and fourth generations of the Schott family carried on by current executives.
