MM6, the contemporary women's clothing line of the renowned French fashion house Martin Margiela, was founded in 1997. MM6 stands out, according to its owner, Renzo Rosso, for its more accessible and less intellectual creations compared to the larger Maison Martin Margiela collections, while still maintaining the brand's philosophy. The creative direction of the MM6 line is handled by an anonymous collective, not by the house's renowned Artistic Director, John Galliano. The brand was first launched by the mysterious Martin Margiela in 1989 and is arguably one of the most famous examples of conceptual fashion. MM6 adopts an unconventional vision of women's fashion and stands out for its assertive approach. While the main line is immediately recognizable thanks to its white label sewn in four places, this line features a single horizontal stitch, visible from the outside of the garments, where the MM6 label is attached. MM6 classics are reimagined in soft, padded versions. In a cocooned, immersive world, the MM6 woman presents a more casual, street-inspired approach than the high-brow approach of the luxury fashion house. Sportswear, clever graphic prints, sneakers, and geometric shapes are always represented in its unexpected urban undertones.
